In the fog of trying to wake up, Mickey was aware of someone else in his room. He tried to sit up and found that he couldn’t move from the neck down. “What the hell?” he whispered. He still had control of his head and took a look around at his surroundings. His lights were out and in the shadow he could see a figure standing there. “Who the hell are you? Get out!” he said aloud. He found that his voice was very hoarse.

It took a lot to frighten Mickey, but he was absolutely terrified. “Don’t try and fight it,” the person said, “It will only make it worse.” At this point I was so astounded that when I heard that the voice was one of a woman’s, I was speechless. She stepped further and turned on the lamp next to my bed. To my further astonishment, she was absolutely beautiful.

“You’re finally awake.” She said with tears flowing down her cheeks. “Who are you?” he asked. She looked down at the floor, looking ashamed. “I’m your wife.” She said bluntly. “I don’t understand.” Mickey said, “I don’t remember anything.” Her chin seemed to tremble a bit. “I know. They finally found you and took your memory. Why couldn’t have listened to me Mickey?” she asked.

So extremely confused he said, “What are you talking about? You’re crazy.” He tried getting up. “Stop!” she yelled, “They beat you pretty badly.” He didn’t understand anything that was going on. “You were a weapon of the Army. You gave away valuable intelligence to a terrorist clan.” She said with more tears that seemed to flow like rivers down her face. “They are giving me a few minutes with you, so, please, try and remember all the times we had together.”

After sitting there for a moment she bent down and kissed him. As she pulled back he seemed to go out of consciousness again. He awoke in a lawn chair in someone’s backyard. He stood up out of the lawn chair. “Look daddy! A big bird!” a little girl said while pointing up in the sky. He looked up, but then immediately returned his gaze to the girl. He recognized her.

In another moment he was flashed out of the scene into another chair, and it was much hotter. The only difference was is that it was pitch black. His body was very sore as well. “What are they hiding?” a voiced asked. He didn’t answer, being still extremely confused by all of this. A moment later he felt an excruciating pain in shoot through his whole body. “What is it?” the voice asked this time screaming.

In another flash he seemed to go through a plethora of similar things. He realized that these were memories. He recalled everything. His wife, two children, and the information he had supposedly given those fiends. He came back to reality watching his wife pull away from him. “Kate?” Mickey questioned. Relieved, and now with a huge smile on her face, “Yes baby, it’s me.” She said stroking my head. “I didn’t tell them anything.” Mickey said. “What?” she asked with her a puzzled look in her eyes.

“We know.” A voice from the background said. A man dressed in an army suit walked up beside his wife. He immediately recognized him. “You did good soldier.” He said, “We needed a way to get your memory back, and we figured the best way was to introduce you to them.” He said with a smile. “Your work is done here. You can go home.” He said finally and started for the door. “Oh, and one more thing, as your memories come back remember everything you heard is extremely classified, and is to not to be shared with anyone. Go live a normal life.” He said and then left.

Mickey looked at his wife and smiled. “I’m finally done.” He said. Chuckling, she said, “Let’s go home.” I was finally ready to live the life I wanted. No one was watching my every move anymore. I could do what I wanted. No one could tell me to be who I had to be.
