I was walking down the street when I saw a small wooden box by the road. Suddenly, I heard a voice say, “Help! Let me out of here!” To my surprise, the voice was coming from the box.
So, I approached the box and peered inside. A little confused about what had just happened, I saw a little mouse inside the box. “Can you help me?” the mouse asked. Bewildered by this talking mouse, I reached inside the box where, to my surprise, the mouse pulled me in and I landed in a belly flop of what felt like 50 feet of snow.
Before I knew what was going on, I was picked up by some huge furry fingers. “Thank you for offering your help!” the new deep voice of the mouse said. I looked up at him and saw a smile on the huge mouse head. Still so shocked, I didn’t say anything back to the mouse.
“Our king has been weeping for days! Our royal elephant has seemed to get a tumor and we haven’t been able to find anyone small enough to cut it off the bottom of his foot. Now you’ve come to help us.” The mouse said. I had no clue where I was. Before I knew what was going on the mouse started running. We ran through a blizzard. As all around me my environment flew past me, we somehow ended up in a desert.
The mouse put me on the ground. “There he is, over there.” The mouse said with his finger pointing at what looked like a huge gray tower. “Take this.” the mouse said finally. He handed me a sword that looked like a toothpick in his massive fingers. “Go under his foot and cut away the tumor. He will lift up his foot just enough for you to cut it off.” The mouse said.
So I walked towards the elephant. It felt as though I was back in Iraq with all the shell shock back to haunt me. Regardless, when I got close enough to the elephant, sure enough he lifted his foot just enough for me to get under. I went under his foot and saw the tumor immediately. Without thinking, I just shoved the sword up the tumor. The elephant reared back. “Cut not stab!” the mouse screamed.
While everything seemed to be going in slow motion, I looked back up to the elephant. His foot was coming back down! I tried to get out of the way, but it was hopeless. As his foot crashed on top of me and I began hearing bones snap, I opened my eyes. I was back on the sidewalk. Several people were passing by giving me only a glance. “Day dreaming again.” I whispered to myself. I looked at the box. I smiled, picked up the box, and started towards my house.
